L2. Z-OUTER (BLACK)
The Z-Outer is manufactured from a light-weight recycled ripstop nylon which is extremely durable and resistant to tearing, ripping or fraying. The centre front zipper is a large two-way YKK zipper for comfort and styling. Constructed on the front of the Z-Outer are two large pockets and two zipped pockets to the sides. All pockets come with high-quality YKK zippers. There is a funnel neck design with a concealable hood, adjustable cuffs, breathable liner mesh, and has a DWR which is an additional water repellent protector.
The generation III extended cold weather clothing system (Gen III ECWCS) allows soldiers to adapt to varying mission requirements and environmental conditions. They utilise materials that offer a greater range of breathability and environmental protection, providing greater versatility in meeting soldiers’ needs.
The official ECWCS’ (extended cold weather clothing system) description for a Layer 2 garment would be to provide light insulation in mild conditions or add an additional layer of protection in frigid conditions.
