Introducing the Sakido Down Outer

NISH reports:

Nanga's CEO Tomoyuki Yokota took over his fathers business in Japan in 2001. Our founder and CEO Jamie Lundy also took over his fathers Rail Business in 2001. Little did they know, 22 years later they would come together to create the stunning the Sakido Down Outer and inspire Lundy to change the direction of SEVENLAYER®

.......

You'd be forgiven in thinking that the 'Sakido Down Outer' is not 7L’s  typical aesthetic or style. “You’d be right” says our founder Lundy “But that's all about to change for 2024. We've had a lot to deal with the past few years, pandemics, warehouse fires, recessions etc. and it's definitely set the brand back at least 2 years. It’s been difficult and frustrating to not see the us naturally evolve and diversify with the market and latest trends”.

..

The brand has made a strong come back with the AW23 Resurgence System and made a statement with some bold colours that have certainly seen the brand stand out from the crowd. Quality and high level technical products have formed the basis of the AW23 system, which, to be fair, is pretty insane.

..

“I’m not sure people realise” says Lundy “but lead times on technical fabrics (Swiss or Japanese) and booking manufacturing slots with some of the worlds best factories, have lead times of up to 12 months! The only reason we had some sort of collection for AW23, is that we have built up an amazing supply chain, jumping through hoops to support us. It certainly hasn’t been easy to get ahead of the game and following the fire in 2022, the brands main aim was initially to replace the stock we lost and build back the foundation we had. As you can appreciate, new designs, brand direction, trends, all went out the window during this period.  Initially It took 2-3 years to build up those stock levels, so of course, replacing all layers and styles has been financially, not to mention mentally draining.

..

Lundy has done well to keep the brand alive, but the NANGA® collaboration seems so different from the normal 7L® aesthetic? “Not whatsoever...Well perhaps a little...haha! The Sakido Outer is still very technical with its Hydrophobic outer shell. Its light weight properties really lend itself to the modern day consumer. The world and its environment is continually evolving and changing. Winters are becoming milder (especially in the UK) so people are looking for down parkas that are lightweight, practical and of course keep you dry and warm but don’t overheat you stood in the shopping aisle. Of course, If you are a little warm, it's packable, so you can always pack it away inside your shopping bags or shoulder bag. It’s all about functionality, but not having to think about functionality. We design garments that are part of your lifestyle. These then become a part of your Performance Lifestyle whether your shopping or skiing."

..

The Sakido Down Outer is the first collaborative piece with NANGA® but won’t be the last. “We have worked really well with our Japanese partners NANGA® and we will be definitely designing and creating more for AW24."
